For the World Peace Project, inspired by the beauty of the lotus flower and its spiritual significance, Bali's Wayan Karang explains his intent in designing these exquisite drop earrings.
'Lotus is a flower that can grow on the surface of the water yet requires mud to grow with beautiful flowers and leaves that grow wide. The lotus flower is considered a symbol of purity and transcendence, as well as spiritual purification and liberation. Transcendence itself means divine awareness or vertical human consciousness, not only religiously but in any sense that transcends human reason.
'The lotus is beautiful and clean, even though it grows in a muddy environment,' he continues. 'By being linked to the philosophy of life, where humans have been created perfectly by God so that they must develop to a better life goal even though sometimes they are surrounded by hatred and negativity. Lotus has the meaning of peace and purity, which is often used as a symbol of the flower of peace. So with that, I raised the concept of the lotus flower into the form of jewelry. My hope is that humans can become like lotus flowers, aware of the perfection that has been bestowed by God, and can create positive things.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT
Artisan Organization: Wayan Karang
Country: Bali and Java
"My name is Wayan Karang Wira Adi Putra. I was born in Denpasar in 1994. I grew up in Celuk Village, Gianyar, which is famous for its silver crafts. My parents are silver craftsmen; my father is one of the senior craftsmen in my village. I am the eldest of two children; I was born in a simple family. Since childhood, I have loved to draw. When I was in junior high school, I became interested in and understood Balinese ornamentation. So I decided to continue my Vocational High School and focus on a metal major. After graduating, I continued my education at the Indonesian Art Institute Denpasar, majoring in Visual Communication Design. With the knowledge that I have, I can develop my ideas in creative and innovative designs.
"Some time ago I experienced economic difficulties because I was fired for no apparent reason from the company where I worked. After 3 months I was having trouble finding a job. Thankfully there was a way out of this problem; I became a designer again. My diligence in design paid off in 2019 when I won 1st Place in Product Design at the Bali Arts Festival.
"I am directly involved in both designing and producing the products directly. The jewelry that I design and produce uses brass as the main material, with a workmanship technique that is simple and handmade. Hopefully, in the future, I can make a more developed design.
"On the sidelines of my busy life as a designer, I usually spend my free time watching sports TV channels, and I also really like badminton. Besides that, I will also optimize the time to be with my family and have free time. I am married and have one son. Incidentally, my wife is also pursuing silver crafts. Having children really changed my life; it made me more excited to work to support my small family.
"As a person who is detailed and full of ideas, I also have high and hard ideals. I found out about Novica from other craftsmen who had joined before, and then I got a direct offer from Novica to join. I hope that in the future I can promote and market products made of brass." "
