THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT
Artisan Organization: Armine Harutyunyan
Country: Armenia
"Hello, I'm Armine Harutyunyan, a passionate silversmith with a unique journey. Initially trained as an architect, I spent over a decade in that field until the allure of silversmithing captured my heart.
My silver odyssey began during my second maternity leave. Juggling a full-time job in architecture and family responsibilities, I faced skepticism from my male family members about setting up a jeweler's bench in our home. Despite the challenges, I immersed myself in silversmithing, and soon, it became an irreplaceable part of my life.
What started as a personal exploration quickly transformed into a full-fledged profession. The positive response to my work, coupled with comparable earnings to my role as a lead architect, solidified my commitment. Silversmithing became more than a craft; it became my calling.
Over the past seven years, I've participated in exhibitions across Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Georgia. My personal exhibition, a culmination of a year of hard work, was a significant success. The preparation was demanding, requiring dramatic and show-stopping pieces while ensuring a sustainable income.
In my creations, I love incorporating elements with history, such as natural stones and old artifacts. The organic allure of oxidized finishes and the use of aged coins or findings add character to my pieces. I find inspiration in excavated items, envisioning a revival for these relics as they become part of a woman's adornment.
Each piece I craft involves meticulous processes like sawing, soldering, hammering, and oxidizing, all originating from silver sheets and wires. My work is not just about creating jewelry; it's a celebration of history, a revival of forgotten treasures, and a testament to the timeless beauty of craftsmanship.
Join me in this journey where every piece tells a story, and history becomes a wearable art form.""
