THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Tigran Danielyan

Country: Armenia

"My name is Tigran Danielyan, and I am a ceramic artisan with a lifelong dedication to the arts. Born and raised in the culturally rich city of Yerevan, I was introduced to art from a young age, thanks to the strong influence of my family and community. At just seven years old, I began attending the Henrik Igityan Aesthetic Education Center, where I discovered my passion for creating with my hands. It was there, surrounded by creative peers and mentors, that I developed an early appreciation for art and honed my skills in pottery and ceramics.

"From 1996 to 2001, I studied at the Yerevan Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Applied Decorative Arts, Design, and Ceramics. The Academy provided me with a solid foundation in traditional ceramic techniques and design principles, but it also encouraged me to explore new methods and approaches to my craft. My education at the Academy allowed me to refine my creative voice and find my unique artistic style. I graduated with a deep understanding of how to blend functionality with artistic expression, aiming to create pieces that are both practical and visually compelling.

"In 2002, I became a member of the Union of Artists of Armenia, a milestone that connected me with a network of talented artisans and enabled me to contribute to the vibrant Armenian art scene. Being part of this community has been a valuable experience, as it has allowed me to share ideas, participate in exhibitions, and gain exposure for my work. Over the years, I have participated in numerous exhibitions and symposia in cities like Yerevan, Moscow, and Kyiv. These experiences have helped me grow as an artist, exposing me to new perspectives, techniques, and inspirations from different parts of the world.

"For two years, I lived and worked in Kyiv, a period that had a significant impact on my artistic journey. The city’s culture and artistic atmosphere provided fresh influences and allowed me to experiment with different styles and ideas. Living in Kyiv broadened my creative horizons and deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity, all of which I bring into my work today.

"I have been working with clay professionally since I was 14 years old, but the art of pottery has always felt like a natural extension of who I am. Over the years, I have developed a signature style that combines traditional Armenian motifs with contemporary forms. My pieces are often inspired by the natural beauty of Armenia and its architectural heritage. Each creation is a blend of textured surfaces, earthy colors, and carefully crafted shapes that reflect the spirit of my homeland. I believe that pottery is more than just a craft; it is a medium that captures stories, emotions, and cultural identities.

"Working with ceramics is both a personal journey and a way for me to contribute to the preservation of Armenian art. I am passionate about honoring our heritage through my work, which is why I incorporate Armenian symbols and patterns into many of my pieces. My process is rooted in patience and precision, from shaping the clay to the final firing, each step requires focus and respect for the material. I see each piece as a way to bring a small part of Armenian culture into people’s lives.

"Today, as an artisan, I am committed to creating works that connect with people on a deeper level, inviting them to experience the beauty and richness of Armenian tradition. Through my ceramics, I hope to share my love for my craft and my heritage, creating pieces that resonate with those who appreciate both art and culture. Thank you for taking the time to learn about my journey, and I look forward to sharing my work with you. Each piece I create is a testament to my commitment to my craft, my culture, and my vision as an Armenian artisan.""
