THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT
Artisan Organization: Violet
Country: Thailand
"Greetings, my name is Violet. I was born in the Philippines in 1943. I have always had a great interest in crafts and have loved crocheting since elementary school. Crocheting is easy to learn, requiring only a crochet needle and yarn, both of which are inexpensive. Since I was a child, I have been captivated by the beauty and attractiveness of crochet works. I have made various items such as scarves, doilies, bags, curtain decorations, and even larger projects like bedspreads. These days, I particularly enjoy making scarves.
"I am self-taught in crochet. Sometimes, by simply looking at patterns or pictures from other sources, I attempt to recreate them using my imagination. I love the soft texture of yarn and the variety of colors available. However, due to my current vision impairment, I tend to prefer lighter shades.
"Crocheting not only allows me to make good use of my free time but also serves as a form of therapy. It helps me focus and alleviates feelings of loneliness. It has been my hobby for many years, and I began taking it more seriously when I moved to Thailand. Eventually, someone convinced me to sell my crocheted items for extra income.
"I am proud that, at my advanced age, I can still earn some income from my craft. It brings me great joy to know that many people appreciate my work. Crocheting also provides a means for me to connect with others who share the same interests. I have noticed that crochet, once considered a pastime for housewives or the elderly, is now growing in popularity among young people and those who appreciate crochet scarves and handbags.
"I am grateful to have come across Novica, and I am thankful for the opportunity to present and share my work with the world.""
