THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT
Artisan Organization: Stepan Ohanyan
Country: Armenia
"Greetings, I'm Stepan Ohanyan, hailing from the heart of Yerevan. My hands find purpose and passion in the art of pottery, a craft passed down from my father, a master of sculpture, painting, and pottery. Our shared mission goes beyond creating mere aesthetics; it's about infusing functionality into art, making pieces that seamlessly blend into everyday life. Life took a turn during the 44-day war and the onset of COVID-19. Instead of molding clay, I found myself in military service, stationed in various roles. It was a period of challenges, but I faced them with resilience.
The raw material for my creations comes from Armenian soil, transformed into unique handmade items. The orderliness of my workspace is a reflection of the thoughtful process each piece undergoes—an embodiment of care and creativity. In the midst of adversity, both personal and societal, my hands remain committed to shaping not just clay but also narratives, stories, and a connection to the heritage that defines us.""
