THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Ibrat Yusupov

Country: Silk Road

"My name is Ibrat Yusupov, I graduated from an art college and since 2005 I have been creating jewelry. When I started it was difficult to make profit, but I did not give up this art as I liked doing it. I continued creating and now the interest in national jewelry has grown. My father supported me on this journey, he helped me to purchase the first equipment and tools to begin. He was not indifferent towards my interests and I want to show this attitude to my children in turn.

"I mainly create jewelry items using traditional styles, but I also incorporate modern designs in with ancient ones. I use different patterns in my designs - They are mostly from nature, like trees and flowers. Sometimes I use engraving with Arabic letters, these are usually quotes of wisdom by Omar Khayyam.

"Coming from a family of teachers, I have also joined this profession, and was hired to teach the craft of jewelry making to children aged 7 to 15. With the help of this craft, they are trying to find their place in the world.

"I live by philosophy of patience. Especially in jewelry art, I believe patience is key.""
