THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Sunarto
Country: Bali and Java
"My name is Sunarto, and I was born in Ujung Pandang in 1983. Ujung Pandang is one of the largest and fastest-growing cities in Eastern Indonesia, specifically located on the island of Sulawesi. My grandparents were traditional goldsmiths, but my parents chose not to continue their work. Instead, I decided to carry on the legacy of my grandparents and pursue their craft. I am the youngest of five siblings, with two brothers and two sisters. I spent my childhood in Ujung Pandang until 1988 when my family and I relocated to Bali. I really like art even though I have never pursued formal art education - I am self-taught.
"I embarked on my journey as a jewelry designer, studying and working independently. There were occasions where I felt underestimated due to my age and limited experience. While I encountered some setbacks, there were many successful projects I completed. Notably, my collaborations with customers from abroad have been particularly rewarding. I thrive on challenges and take immense pride in delivering excellent results that garner praise from my clients. Such recognition is truly invaluable.
"As an open-minded and easygoing person, I am always open to changing times, especially in today's digital era, which provides us with convenient avenues to market artisanal products. With Novica, I hope to create even better designs and gain international recognition.""
