THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Sayyodjon Nigmatov

Country: Silk Road

"From a young age, my father, a ceramics master, taught me all the secrets of pottery. I am currently recognized as a representative of the second generation in this craft.

"Pottery and ceramic art hold a significant place as traditional heritage in our region. I adhere to traditional methods in crafting all my products, using my hands at every stage of production and employing a potter's wheel.

"I utilize locally sourced clay from Uzbekistan. My inspiration stems from historical and traditional designs, which I adapt to suit modern sensibilities.

"I am married with three children, and I hope that they become skilled professionals who contribute to our society. Following in my father's footsteps, I have been teaching my children and nephews this craft, aspiring for them to carry on this heritage. My dream is to introduce the traditional Rishton pottery school to the rest of the world and collaborate with other masters in this craft.

"I have encountered various challenges in learning this craft, but I have overcome them through patience and hard work. I have learned to persevere and always move forward. My motto is 'Dil ba yor-u, dast ba kor', which translates to 'Heart with Allah, hands at work', signifying the importance of keeping God in our hearts while diligently working.""
