Warm tones characterize the traditional costumes of Vaspurakan, a province of the ancient kingdom of Armenia known as “the land of princes.” Artisan Gohar Petrosyan, inspired by stories and songs of the city's splendor, uses ceramics to craft this sweet tribute, creating this hand-painted figurine depicting a lovely lady carrying her baby while wearing the stunning style of the place.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Gohar Petrosyan

Country: Armenia

"My name is Gohar Petrosyan, and I was born and raised in Gyumri. I started drawing at the age of 2. Since childhood, I have had hearing and speech difficulties. Recognizing my passion for painting, my parents decided to enroll me in painting classes. At the age of 14, I had my first solo exhibition, thanks to the initiative of my teacher. It was during this exhibition that I made my first sale of artworks.

"Later, I studied at the College of Fine Arts specializing in traditional lace-making and then at the Yerevan Academy of Fine Arts, earning a degree as a painter. Throughout my years of study, I also attended sculpture classes and learned the art of sculpting.

"In 2015, following my father's advice and assistance, I was able to set up a pottery kiln and started to focus on pottery production. In 2022, I participated in the "Women Entrepreneurs" program organized by AGBU and received a special award. In 2023, I was honored with the title of 'People's Master' by the RA Ministry of Science and Culture and the H.Sharambeyan Museum of Folk Arts.

"Currently, my focus is on creating pottery dolls in traditional costumes. I also conduct master classes for tourists and local students. I receive invaluable assistance from my family members, including my mother and sisters, in my work.""
