Description

Sharp and bold figures merge in a magnificent composition by Bali's Kasiyanto. Exuding strength and courage, this acrylic painting inspired by the region's classic arts aims to send a profound message: 'Most humans wear masks to cover their shortcomings even though God created humans as the best creatures above other creatures,' as the artist says.

The composition arrives signed and unstretched.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Kasiyanto

Country: Bali and Java

"My name is Kasiyanto and I was born on June 12, 1970 in West Java. I started to learn about painting when I was in elementary school. At the time I used watercolors on paper. A senior painter in my village then taught me many things about painting, like proportion, composition and other aspects.

"At one point my creativity in painting suffered as I didn't have enough money to buy oil, canvas, and paintbrushes. But it didn't stop me from making paintings. I did everything I could to support my hobby.

"Sometime in January of 2002 a friend of mine, who has been living in Bali for some years, informed me about Novica and its mission to help small artists and artisans in promoting and selling their products through the Internet. My paintings have been in collective exhibition at the 'Art and Culture Study' at Dewan Kesenian Malang (East Java, 1994), a collective exhibition at Majapahit Hall (Malang, East Java, 1997) a collective exhibition at Gianyar Hotel (Bali, 2000), and a collective exhibition at Bunga-Bunga Bali Gallery (Kuta, Bali, 2001).""
