THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Shahnoza Sharipova

Country: Silk Road

"I was born and raised in the Vobkent district of Bukhara region, a place where the rich tapestry of our culture and traditions was woven into the very fabric of our lives. My youth was full of content, spent in the embrace of family and the enchanting beauty of our homeland. From a tender age, I found solace and inspiration in the art of embroidery and goldsmithing. The intricate patterns and delicate stitches that adorned our traditional garments held a profound fascination for me. It was as if each thread contained a piece of our history and heritage. So, I embarked on a journey to explore these ancient crafts.

"I pursued my studies at a vocational college, immersing myself in the world of embroidery. Uzbek embroidery, deeply rooted in our cultural tradition, has been passed down through generations. For centuries, the women of my region have skillfully woven the beauty of nature into their work, each stitch telling a unique story of our way of life. I wish to continue to preserve this legacy, continuing to enhance the quality and efficiency of my products.

"Teaching the craft to the younger generation has become a significant part of my work. I believe that by passing on my knowledge, I can ensure the continuation of these traditions for generations to come. My mission is not just to create beautiful pieces, but to create jobs for my local community, providing livelihoods and sustaining our cultural heritage.

"I take pride in using natural materials, with a particular focus on cotton and silk. The raw materials I use are primarily prepared on special order, and I source them locally. My design philosophy is deeply rooted in Uzbek national crafts. My creations are known for their unique patterns and structure.

"This is how I would describe myself: I am an inquisitive and curious creator, always yearning to discover new horizons. At times, I confess, I can be a tad lazy, preferring to dream rather than act. Yet, I am a risk-taker, unafraid to embrace the unknown, and above all, I am truthful, for honesty is the bedrock of integrity.

"Now, as a mother of two children, I hope that my offspring will become great people in the future. I cherish the moments when they join me in our business, learning about our craft and the values we hold dear. They are the bridge to the future, carrying forward the torch of our traditions.

"In the end, my personal philosophy is simple: "I know that I know nothing," as Socrates once wisely said. These words inspire me daily, reminding me to remain humble and continue seeking knowledge, to explore the endless possibilities in the art of embroidery, and to cherish the rich tapestry of our cultural heritage that surrounds us."
