THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT

Artisan Organization: Sose Karakhanyan

Country: Armenia

"My name is Sose Karakhanyan, and I was born in 1992 in the Republic of Armenia. Growing up in a country with a deep and inspiring artistic heritage, I discovered my passion for art early on. From 2005 to 2007, I attended an art school, where I first started developing my skills. Later, I studied with a highly qualified teacher who helped me build a strong foundation in visual arts. This early exposure to creativity and craftsmanship led me to pursue formal studies at the State College of Fine Arts named after Panos Terlemezyan, where I trained as an artist-designer.

"After completing my studies, I was eager to begin my artistic journey. My first major step was organizing an exhibition and fashion show on October 9, 2013, at the Hay Art exhibition hall. This event, which showcased both my paintings and fashion designs, received recognition from the Yerevan City Council, a memorable moment that affirmed my dedication to the arts. During this period, from 2010 to 2012, I also participated in various student exhibitions across educational institutions in Yerevan, an experience that helped me connect with the local art community and gain confidence as an artist.

"Throughout my career, I have enjoyed being part of many exhibitions and competitions. In 2014, I took part in the youth competition Baze in Yerevan, where I received the second honorary prize, the Bronze Hawk, a recognition that motivated me to keep pushing my creative boundaries. The same year, I participated in a charity exhibition that aimed to support the construction of an art school in Gyumri, which felt incredibly rewarding. Later, in 2015, I contributed to an exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, held by the council of artists. Through these events, I connected with artists who share my passion for preserving our heritage and who also use art as a means to raise awareness.

"In 2016, my artistic path took a new direction when I discovered the world of jewelry design. Inspired by photos of other artisans’ creations, I became fascinated by the idea of transforming my designs into wearable art. What began as a personal interest quickly developed into a serious endeavor. As I honed my skills and experimented with various techniques, I found my voice as a jewelry designer. My pieces are a blend of modern style with Armenian cultural motifs, a fusion that allows me to express my heritage in a fresh and accessible way. Each piece I create is a reflection of my journey, my culture, and my artistic evolution. My jewelry is not only a creative outlet but also a way to connect with people who appreciate handmade craftsmanship and the stories behind each piece.

"Through my work, I strive to capture both the history and the resilience of Armenia while bringing something unique to the contemporary art scene. Art has been my constant companion, guiding me through various phases of my life, and I am grateful for every opportunity to share my vision with others. Thank you for taking an interest in my story, and I hope my work brings you as much joy and inspiration as it brings me.""
