Hector Garibi

Artisan Organization: Hector Garibi

Country: Mexico

My grandfather had a collection of little boxes, which I always liked to look at and touch; from there was born the idea that one day I would make something similar. I continued studying and doing my work, and I have some cousins who are also dedicated to artisanship, encouraging me even more. The spark was ultimately lit when my mother, upon seeing how much I liked woodwork, began giving me videos, both from Mexico and other parts of the world, demonstrating how to elaborate different types of work.

After a while, I began testing with different woods until I found the necessary woods and veneers. First, I select the wood in terms of quality, color, grain, and texture. After cutting the wood for the frames, I make a groove in which the inlaid work - previously designed, cut, and united to the veneer - is applied. Once affixed, it is sanded and sealed, after which a polyurethane finish is applied to ensure greater durability."

Hector Garibi was born in the town of Zapopan in the state of Jalisco. He studied international commerce."
