"My name is Arthur Simonyan, and I was born and raised in Yerevan, a city rich in history and culture. From a young age, I’ve been drawn to the stories and symbols that define Armenia’s past, which ultimately led me to work at the History Museum of Armenia. In my role at the museum, I’m surrounded by artifacts and archeological discoveries that offer glimpses into the lives of our ancestors. This connection to history fuels my passion for preserving and sharing the beauty of Armenian culture, not just through historical studies but through my own creative work.

"Woodworking has been a hobby of mine since childhood. I remember the first time I picked up a piece of wood and started to carve it; I was captivated by the idea of transforming something so raw into an object of beauty and meaning. Over the years, this hobby became more than just a pastime—it became a way for me to connect with my roots and express my passion for Armenian heritage. The idea to create home decorations, candlesticks, and relief sculptures from wood waste came naturally to me. It was a way to breathe new life into discarded materials, turning them into something that could inspire and tell a story.

"In all of my works, I incorporate Armenian national ornaments. These designs are deeply symbolic and represent the essence of our culture, passed down through generations. The patterns I use in my carvings aren’t just decorative; they hold profound meaning, each symbol telling a story of our people’s resilience, faith, and connection to the land. Whether it’s a candlestick adorned with intricate Armenian motifs or a relief sculpture depicting a historical scene, every piece I create is meant to honor our traditions and celebrate the artistry of our ancestors.

"One of the main missions behind my work is to highlight the history and culture of Armenia through these symbols. In a way, each item I craft becomes a vehicle for storytelling, allowing people to connect with the deeper meaning behind the designs. I want my pieces to spark curiosity, to make people pause and wonder about the significance of the symbols they see, and ultimately to foster a greater appreciation for the rich tapestry of Armenian history.

"Working at the History Museum has given me a unique perspective on the importance of preserving cultural heritage. It has also provided me with inspiration for my woodworking. As I study ancient artifacts and learn more about the lives of those who came before us, I am continually motivated to reflect that knowledge in my art. My aim is to create pieces that are not only beautiful but also carry a sense of legacy and continuity, bridging the past and present in a way that feels both personal and universal.
