THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT
Artisan Organization: Azizi Life
Redempta Mutegarugori is a member of the Kanguka "Wake Up" Weaving Cooperative. These weavers specialize in miniature baskets woven from sisal fibers. Redempta's mother, Priska, is also a weaver, and is the president of their group. These women show incredible persistence.
Redempta loves how Azizi Life values the artisans, their work, and each of the products they create. One of her favorite things is being with happy people, because this helps her to stay at her happiest. Redempta's future hope is that her family (her husband and children) be strong and able to meet all the basic needs of their family. They want their children to be educated, and their home construction finished and looking beautiful. They would like to be a model couple in their village.
With the income from the sale of three of these baskets, a woman can purchase annual national health insurance for one member of her family. Or- with the sale of one basket, a woman can purchase 3lbs of dried beans or 2lbs of potatoes or 1.5lbs of nutritious porridge for her child.
